Choosing a Sapphire Ring over a Diamond Ring as an Engagement Ring

When it comes to engagement rings, diamonds are still the most classic choice. But engagement rings with sapphires are becoming an increasingly popular trend - and for good reason! Read on to learn more about why we love sparkling sapphire rings.

Your Choice of Color

While most people are aware that sapphires usually have a rich royal blue color, you may not know that sapphires come in pretty much any color of the rainbow! Sapphire colors such as blue-green, green, lavender, orange and yellow, and even the classic white color allow you to create a beautiful engagement ring that is unique to your style. Of course, the traditional deep blue color of sapphires is also a great choice and we have seen an increase in couples choosing engagement rings with sapphires over the classic diamond rings both to get a unique color but also to get a larger center gemstone, without it becomes more expensive — rather, on the contrary.

A Larger Center Stone for Your Ring

Sapphires are usually cheaper than diamonds with similar shape and carat weight. Because of this, white sapphires are a popular alternative to diamonds for engagement rings. For couples who want to maximize the size of their center stone while staying within a certain budget, choosing a sapphire over a diamond ring can make a big difference.

Made to Last a Lifetime

While a diamond is the hardest mineral with a 10-rating on Mohs scale for hardness, corundum (the mineral family for sapphires and rubies) is the second hardest mineral with a rating of 9. Due to its hardness, sapphires are fantastic gemstones for everyday use and jewelry , which will be used a lot as engagement rings. Sapphires also do not have “cleavage”, which means they do not break when hit. Caring for sapphires is also relatively easy: Regular cleaning with warm soapy water is all that is needed to keep a sapphire center stone sparkling.

Combine Sapphires and Diamonds

If you like the look of sapphires but prefer diamonds, our engagement rings are a beautiful way to incorporate both as they are available with side diamonds and a larger center sapphire. Of course, we also make all our engagement rings with center diamonds on demand.
